The Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Protection District is located in Snowmass Village, Colorado in Pitkin County. Established in 1971 we are located approximately 180 miles from of Denver and only 7 miles from Aspen in the Roaring Fork Valley. Situated in an area known for its natural beauty, we are at an elevation of almost 9,000 feet above sea level. Year round activities here include hiking, biking, rafting, fishing, kayaking, climbing, golfing, skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering. Special events like free summer concerts and rodeos make this an extremely desirable place to live. Snowmass is a rapidly growing community with a population that exceeds 25,000 people at times. SWFD serves our population 24/7 within a 24-square mile area. SWFD is also called upon often through mutual aid agreements with Aspen, Basalt and Carbondale fire departments. SWFD has 19 full time career personnel consisting of a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal, Fire Inspector, Administrative Assistant, 3 Fire Captains, 3 Engineer/Paramedics, and 9 Firefighter/Paramedics. We are supported by numerous volunteers and part-time reserve Firefighter/EMT’s. The Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Department operates 13 pieces of apparatus out of one station.
SWFD is responsible for all Emergency Medical care as well as Fire and Technical Rescue operations in our district. Our yearly call volume is around 1000 calls with approximately 40% consisting of medical calls. We are proud to exhibit that an ISO rating of 4 for our entire district.
